I was watching television and stumbled across a documentary on toy guns and children. The documentary showed some appalling footage of children pointing guns to their heads and shooting as well as pointing to others. I was dumbfounded by this. I was shocked. I didn't know how to feel about societies openness to exposing children to violence. Ever since I can remember water guns were the coolest summer time toy. Remember the Super soak er 3000? So cool! I don't remember ever thinking about finding a real gun to shoot though. A lot of situations in life are based on a case by case basis. I don't see myself handing my son a BB Gun anytime soon, simply because I don't understand the use for something that could potentially harm someone or himself. I am also a little over protective. Water guns though... Common!!! They are filled with water and are neon pink, green,.. etc. Let's get real. Case by case I say. If your child is a little wacky, then limit the violence on television and cowboys and Indians they are exposed to. If they want to squirt a gun in the bath tub, I honestly don't see a detrimental effect in their near future.
